MSPIFF 2013 Choices
It's here! Check out the MSPIFF website for more choices.
I'm wondering, though, how long they'll be able to continue to call themselves an "international" film fest. In the program's index by country, there are six columns of films, and two columns are U.S. films. While I enjoy truly independent American film, I go to MSPIFF for the international film, for the perspective of people around the world. Is the film fest losing its way in its search for cash? MSPIFF got a big grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. You know, the folks who give out Oscars. Yeah, the ones who are overwhelmingly white and male. Please don't follow the Oscar's lead Film Society. Please.
Rant's over. Now for my choices. I'm out of town for the first weekend, but 45 minutes after I get off the plane, I'll be in a theater. Join me for some!
